Largest Body of Water Known to Man

The Pacific Ocean forms the western boundary of the Siuslaw National Forest and Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area. Although some people fish the surf from the beach, most venture forth in small boats from the mouths of the larger rivers and bays. Charter boats operate from Charleston, Coos Bay, Winchester Bay (Salmon Harbor) at the mouth of the Umpqua River, Newport on Yaquina Bay, and sometimes from Florence at the mouth of the Siuslaw River.

The Pacific Ocean is not only the largest body of water known to mankind, it's the deepest.

The average depth is a mere 14,000 feet, but the greatest known depth is Southwest of Guam and is 35,798 feet (a bit over 6 3/4 miles!)

The Pacific occupies about 1/3 of Earth's surface ... approx. 70,000,000 square miles.

If you guessed that the Pacific was named by the explorer Ferdinand Magellan, high-five yourself.
