The prime functions of the Florence Police Department are the preservation of the public peace and order, the prevention and detection of crime, the apprehension of offenders and the protection of persons and property. It must uphold the Constitution of the United States and enforce the laws of the State of Oregon and the ordinances of the City of Florence. For these purposes, the Police are endowed with legal authority. In the exercise of this power, justice and equity should always be the activating motive.
To achieve true success, the Department must win and retain the confidence and respect of the public, which it serves. This can be accomplished only by constant and warmest endeavor on the part of all members and employees of the Department to perform their duties in an efficient, honest, and businesslike manner, and by exemplary conduct, thereby cultivating in the public mind the fullest realization that the Police Department is a most vital requisite to the public's well being.
In order to perform their duties properly, it is essential that officers and employees of the Department familiarize themselves thoroughly with all rules pertaining to their respective ranks and positions.
A police officer should remember that in the execution of his duties, he acts nor for himself but for the public. His appointment is in no sense for his own advantage. The entire law regulating his functions hinges upon this principle. He is required to be governed by no feelings, save zeal to do what the law commands. He should never allow passions to urge him to brutality, fear, favoritism, or sympathy to illegally influence him towards leniency or neglect of duty.
The officer must bear in mind that he represents the dignity and authority of the sovereign State of Oregon and the City of Florence and is the representative of the law to whose lawful commands all must submit and such submission can be compelled when necessary. Law Enforcement should use no unnecessary force or hesitate to use necessary force when circumstances require.Visit Website

Our Mission and More ...
Sheriff’s Office staff and I have acknowledged our purpose (mission) is to: "Make Lane County a safer place to live by protecting lives and property, while maintaining the dignity of all people." We envision the Lane County Sheriff’s Office serving as the premier law enforcement and correctional agency in the State; leading Lane County law enforcement and criminal justice efforts; and delivering on Lane County residents’ expectations.
The Sheriff’s Office provides correctional services including running a 485-bed jail, 116-bed Community Corrections Center (work-release) and 120-bed Forest Work Camp, and out-of-custody programs such as Community Service and Road Crew. We provide patrols of urban, suburban and rural areas, including timberlands and waterways. Court security, offender transport, process service (criminal and civil), emergency management and search and rescue functions round out the service the office delivers.
Our staff, numbering almost 400 with nearly as many volunteers, uses land, marine, air and other assets combined to maximize our response capability. It is our core value to serve with integrity and honor as we deliver on the public trust and expectations of citizens for a safe and secure community. We are dependent upon your input and your support.
Thank you for your confidence in us, Russel Burger

Oregon State Troopers provide a wide variety of public safety services.
From the rural counties to metropolitan freeways, Troopers are trained to do it all. The mission of the Oregon State Police is to develop, promote, and maintain protection of people, property, and natural resources of the State, and to enhance the safety and livability by serving and protecting its citizens and visitors through leadership, action, and coordination of Oregon's public safety resources.
To accomplish this mission, Oregon State Troopers spend the majority of their time enforcing the State's criminal, fish & wildlife, and motor vehicle laws. Oregon's geographic diversity calls for a wide variety of duty assignments. Troopers may find themselves conducting enforcement patrols by airplane, pickup, ATV, snowmobile, horseback, an assortment of watercraft from white water rafts to ocean going craft, and of course, standard police cruisers.
Oregon's livability is what attracts many new residents to the State. Whether you prefer the ocean, mountains, or desert; large cities or small towns, Oregon has a place for you. Oregon is an outdoor activity mecca that provides its residents and visitors with a wide variety of recreational activities 365 days a year.
Getting to know Oregon will take some time. After all, there more than 220+ State Parks to explore and thousands of trails to hike, including the over 400 mile Pacific Crest Trail that snakes through the Cascade Mountains. For the spirited and adventurous, the Columbia Gorge offers some of the best wind surfing in the world. River rafters can take a ride down the Deschutes, Rogue, or Snake Rivers, and skiers and snowboarders find recreation almost year round on Mount Hood.
For those who prefer milder forms of entertainment, Oregon provides plenty of rustic fishing lodges, luxurious golf destinations, ample wildlife viewing, or even cozy getaways where you can curl up with a hot drink near a crackling fire and watch storms whip up on the Pacific Ocean. It doesn't matter what time of year it is, Oregonians love where they live because there are so many things to do even when the rest of the country is hibernating indoors.
Oregon's agriculture is perhaps the most diverse of any comparable geographic area on earth. Orchards are abundant with fresh fruits, nuts and berries of all kinds, our native wines are winning awards around the world, the ocean offers a delicious bounty of fresh seafood, and tender beef stock is readily available from Eastern Oregon. Yes, getting to know Oregon will take some time, but it is time well spent.
