Tickets are on sale now for the Rhododedron Scholarship Showcase, May 7th 6:30pm at the Florence Events Center. Tickets can be purchased at the Florence Chamber of Commerce, any of the Rhododendron Senior Court, The Siuslaw News, Siuslaw Bank or Mon Ami Deli and Antiques.
Meet the Court
Princess Sara Burns is the daughter of Paul and Cynthia Burns and has one brother, Sean (15). She loves the outdoors and participates in both Cross Country and Track & Field. In addition, she actively involved in Interact Club, Key Club, and National Honors Society. She has played piano for 12 years. During the summer months, she enjoys working as a counselor at Camp Cleawox, a Girl Scout camp. Sara says, "I went to the camp as a child and being a counselor there lets me give kids the same life changing experiences I have had."
Upon graduation from Siuslaw High School, Princess Sara plans to attend Oregon State University and double major in psychology and pre-med, with the ultimate goal of attending medical school and being a neurologist for children.

Prince Trevor Denning, 18, and the son of Melissa and John Barnett. He has three brothers and one sister. After high school, Trevor plans on obtaining a bachelors degree in Recreational Therapy.
After a life-changing ATV accident at the age of 15 left him a T7 paraplegic, Trevor now wants to help people get back into the fun and lively things they did before a life changing event. "I was very involved in sports before the accident and still love to try new things. Independence was huge to me before the accident and still is. I just want to get out into the world and see what it has to offer and want to try different things," says Trevor. "Recreational therapy helped me get into wheelchair basketball and hockey. I appreciate all the support people have been giving to me through my recovery and I am forever grateful and want to thank the community of Florence."

Princess Katrina Greenlief is the daughter of James and Sandra Greenlief. Her older sister, Tamara, is 21 and currently attending college in Montana. Katrina has played Varsity volleyball throughout high school and loves performing music and spending time with friends and family. Along with Rhododendron Court, she also participate as the secretary and treasurer of the SHS Interact Club.
After graduation from Siuslaw High School, Princess Katrina will attend the University of Great Falls in Montana, studying secondary education and mathematics. Says Katrina, "I hope to eventually return to Florence and teach at the high school. Overall, I hope to make a positive difference in this community."

Prince Derek Kennedy is the youngest son of Kurt and Vickie Kennedy, having five older siblings. His sister Emalee was Queen Rhododendra in 2011. Derek has been involved with band, choir, theatre, speech and debate, cross country, Boy Scouts, and track. He has maintained a 3.9 grade point average and states that he values learning and education above all else. Derek will attend Williamette University in the fall, double majoring in History and Theatre Arts.

Prince Jacob Kirby, 17, is a senior at Siuslaw High School. His parents are Pat and Susan Kirby. He has three siblings, one older brother and two older sisters. His hobbies include going on road trips with my friends, going to the beach, exploring, and support Siuslaw sports teams. Prince Jacob maintains a 4.0 GPA and states that his favorite subjects to study are math and science. When asked about his post-high school plans, Jacob says, "I plan on attending University of Portland to major in engineering. I am still deciding what branch of engineering to go into but I want to work with advancing the technology of phones, computers and other personal devices."

Prince Samuel Lane Johnson is a senior at Siuslaw High School; his parents are Andy and Lori Johnson. Older brother John is 20, attends the University of Oregon and is engaged to be married to Linda Paredes. Younger brother Will is 6 years old and is in Kindergarten.
Next fall, Sam will atttend George Fox University to pursue a career in Physical Therapy or Christian Ministries. Sam has played Football, Basketball, and Baseball for the last four years and has a cumulative GPA of 3.5+. While sports have played a large role in his life, Sam says they do not even compare to how large of a role his Family and Faith play in his life. "I have attended Florence Christian Church for my whole life and was baptized there by my father. The quote that I try to live my life by was said by Tony Dungy and it reads 'Dare to be Uncommon Daily.'"

Princess Sonya Lang isthe daughter of Stan and Angela Lang. She has two older sisters, Marina and Ashley with whom she is very close, and along with her attended all twelve years at Mapleton School District. Sonya states that she has enjoyed the schooling experience at Mapleton and would love to return to the community with her own family one day. Says Sonya, "I am very outgoing and love to make people laugh and have a good time. I also enjoy anything to do with the arts; music, singing, and stippling are some of my favorite hobbies. I love all animals and enjoy all of the pets we have on our small ranch. My passion is special needs children; I currently teach for two hours during the school day and love every moment of it. I plan to pursue a career in Autism and Special Needs Teaching starting this fall at Western Oregon University."

Princess Maygan Sturm, 18, is the granddaughter of Joel & Linda Sturm. Her family moved to Florence when she was 13. When asked about her interests, Maygan says, "I like to dance and help others around me." After graduation Siuslaw High Schook, Maygan plans to attend Lane Community College and then transfer to Linn-Benton to obtain her masters degree in nursing and become a Life Flight RN.

Princess Jireh Te'O was born in the American Samoa village of Aua and is the daughter of Joesph and Ana Te'O. She has nine siblings, five brothers and three sisters, and is a senior at Siuslaw High School. Jireh loves to sing and enjoys hiking and walking on the beach. After high school, she plans to attend Lane Community College in Eugene for two years and then transfer to a university. Says Jireh, "I just got enrolled so I'm really excited to start school this fall. I want to go into college and study to get my Master's degree in Community Psychology/Counseling or become a Music therapist."

Prince Jeremiah Tupua is a senior at Siuslaw High School and enjoy taking part in school sports and activities. Born in American Samoa, Jeremiah is the son of Aliitasi and Lotu Tupua. He has three brothers and four sisters. "My post high school plans are to attend Snow College in Ephraim, Utah for two years and then later transfer into a state university, and I plan on getting a degree in business management," says Jeremiah.
